Network Penetration Test (NPT)
Service Description
This is a network-centric penetration test that is typically conducted from outside a client’s network. The goal of this test is to assess the opportunity for an unauthenticated attacker to penetrate the network.
Experienced Activity consultants are able to provide the client with an evaluation of the security of their network and the supporting infrastructure against best practice criteria in order to validate security mechanisms and identify vulnerabilities.
A Network Penetration Test differs from a Network Vulnerability Assessment in that it is narrower in focus; the objective of the engagement is to attempt to compromise a specific host, data store or group of systems within a given time period.
Both types of assessment are similar in nature, but the Network Penetration Test aims to actively exploit vulnerabilities to gain access to sensitive data and systems. The approach simulates an attack by a malicious user and performs an active analysis of the system or group of systems and identifies any potential vulnerabilities or security threats that can be leveraged or circumvented to compromise the systems under assessment.
A Network Vulnerability Assessment utilises active exploitation techniques to identify and validate all potential vulnerabilities across all systems within scope that may result from poor or improper system configuration, known and/or unknown hardware or software flaws, and operational weaknesses in process or technical countermeasures.
