Network Vulnerability Assessment (NVA)
Service Description
A Network Vulnerability Assessment is a network-centric technical point-in-time security assessment that identifies the vulnerabilities within a target organisation’s internal network and is typically conducted from within an organisation as a Local Area Network (LAN) assessment. A Network Vulnerability Assessment incorporates both manual and automated security testing techniques to identify vulnerabilities within desktops, servers and network infrastructure, which could be exploited from within the organisation.
Experienced Activity consultants are able to provide a client with an evaluation of the security of their network and the supporting infrastructure against best practice criteria as well as government and industry standards.
A Network Vulnerability Assessment differs from a Network Penetration Test in that it is broader in focus and aims to assess all of the hosts within a target system or network. A Network Penetration Test is narrower in focus; the objective of the engagement is to attempt to compromise a specific host, data store or group of systems within a given time period.
Both types of Network assessment are similar in nature, but the Network Penetration Test aims to actively exploit vulnerabilities to gain access to sensitive data and systems; whereas a Network Vulnerability Assessment utilises active exploitation techniques to identify and validate all potential vulnerabilities across all systems within scope.
